weekend
At this time of year Agents and buyers don’t get any weekend breaks. This weekend for example Heather Thomson arrives and between running from TV3 to Personal appearances, and journalist interviews there won’t be much time to chill out. The wonderful thing about this business is the variety that it brings and the opportunity to continually meet new people and learn more and more. Often the rewards come later (hopefully) in the form of increased orders and new customers. CPD Dusseldorf starts Sunday and next week- end there is Pure in London. It’s a chance to meet buyers and swap information as well as keeping a keen eye for any new ranges. But with budgets seriously stretched and dwindling fast the race is on.
So far, orders are up and the nicowa range is the best I’ve seen in a long time. Beautiful dress and coat/Jacket combinations in lots of colours. Great new styles in trousers with soft jackets and several top options. Fabulous practical knitted dresses and several evening/ special occasion dresses in all price ranges. Companies are fighting for survival and with old established names such as Escada on the brink of collapse it will be interesting to see who is there at the finish.
Retailers that are doing well despite the recession are those who are on the outskirts of the smaller towns, with lower overheads and great attention to detail with outstanding customer service. Many of them have also got excellent websites and in the next few weeks I will be compiling a list of the best ones. If you know of any or have any sugestions please let me know. Have a good weekend.
