Shades of Summer
Sunglasses are a bit like shoes, I remember my first serious designer sunglasses. They were the iconic RayBan Aviator which I saved up for, for weeks and on hearing that my brother had passed his flying exams and was now officially a wing man gave them to him. My second pair were a pair of Serrengetti an Italian driving label which had (I was assured) the best quality glass which would help me navigate the byways of Ireland without the glare of the sun. That pair met their end when my second child grabbed them off the car seat and threw them out the window whilst I was driving. My third were fabulous and my very favorite Chanel complete with the tiny intertwined CC’s. They met their fate under a horses hooves and my fourth another pair of Chanel met a similar fate ( the least said the better).
Of course the cheaper pairs are the ones that seem to stick around forever. The more expensive ones always seem to suffer a tragic end. So yesterday when I got the invite to take a peek view at the coming seasons selection from Brown Thomas I must confess to being less than enthusiastic and was prepared to be unimpressed. How wrong I was….an array of beautifully designed sunglasses were a feast for the eyes (so to speak!) Lots of colour in the Rayban range, charms in the Tiffany, two tone and weave in Chanel and glam in D&G. Victoria Beckham new to Brown Thomas were strong and edgy, a theme running through the ranges. Large frames were still very evident though perhaps a more sensible large and retro was also in evidence. Colours were much more than the obvious and two tone in the Chanel range were my favorite.
Lucky for me the beautiful journalist Deirdre Morrissey was on hand to do a little impromptu modelling for me.
