Rouillier White in Indie Heaven East Dulwich, London

Tags: , , , — Nicky Harris, October 27, 2011

My passion for shopping is dulled by shopping centres and high street chains but is always refreshed and heightened by Independent Boutiques of all sorts. I am equally happy rummaging in old-fashioned hardware or kitchen wear stores as I am in Lifestyle and Fashion Boutiques. I have a particular fondness for those shops that present an eclectic out of the ordinary collection of carefully edited and sourced goods.

I haven’t blogged for an age as I am so busy with the lovely Diva dresses so have to apologise but I promise to do better! On a recent visit to London I happened upon East Dulwich which is full of great Indie boutiques and shops filled with wonderful things. One of them Roullier White is an eclectic lifestyle mix of household basics and luxury classics. From home cleaning products to old-fashioned beauty products (which include a great classic ‘cold cream’) to luxury classics. Of course I was drawn straight away to the wonderful perfumes, none of which you will find in the Duty Free in any airport anywhere. Since I love perfume and am a total scent snob this was indeed a find. It’s impossible to convey scent here but suffice to say if you want something sublime and different I can totally recommend this beautiful store.

Jewellery I think Mary Portas would love

This was one of those lovely rare internet surfing finds. I know nothing about Paula Gaviria and couldn’t find out anything much either except that she comes from Columbia and is based in Spain. One thing is for sure I love, love, love these statement pieces and they aren’t madly priced either (not cheap mind you). email: mariapaulagaviria@gmail.com

Natalie B Coleman shows what’s what in Brown Thomas

Tags: , , , , — Nicky Harris,

I don’t get excited by new designers often so it was wondrfully refreshing to see not only a new designer that has me taking a sharp intake of breath but an Irish one. Natalie B Coleman is a graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design and Central St Martins in London. Her latest collection sits alongside the Irish designers featured in Brown Thomas Dublin for Autumn Winter 2011. I’m betting that this is one new designer whom if she continues in this way has a very successful future ahead.

All the Jewellery I Never Got’ is the title of the Autumn/Winter 2011/12 collection. It is a collection of print, layering and whimsical storytelling.

All the illustrations are hand drawn, water coloured and digitally printed on silks, making the fabrics 100% unique and original to the NATALIEBCOLEMAN label.

Chanel Springs to show nail colours for Summer 2012

Tags: , , — Nicky Harris, October 8, 2011

Lets skip Winter and go straight to Spring. Well really January since this is when the ranges of make-up and clothing starts to hit the shops. Most collections start the Spring Season with a first delivery in January. Chanel launched images of their three nail colours a couple of days ago. Called April, May and June, my money is on the tangerine June (I have others that are too similar to April and May to warrant spending any money on) and I’m hoping I may just have seen a little of the sun before then.

Chic Unique and the Great Style event

Tags: , , , , — Nicky Harris, October 4, 2011

Last week I headed to Deborah Ruddy’s recently relocated Boutique Chic Unique in Ratoath Co Meath for an evening of fashion and style. The event was hosted by Ireland’s favorite TV stylist for real women Cathy O’Connor and with Pippa O’Connor one of the models. With nibbles and drinkies in hand and a packed room (the boutique has that living room feel) there wasn’t a seat left to be had. Great Winter puffa coats by Damo were a definite winner, warm scarves by Irish designers Electronic Sheep and plenty of great dresses, tops and skirts from labels including Laundry Room and Sinead Doyle Designs make this a lovely boutique with that all essential personal service we women need.

Where does your cotton come from?

Tags: , , — Nicky Harris,

Uzbekistan is one of the biggest producers of cotton but the child labour used in it’s production makes it a truly dreadful product. Where does the cotton used in the clothes we buy actually come from? I think it’s about time we knew before we buy that next cotton T-shirt.
