Here come the Coats

Tags: , , , , , — Nicky Harris, November 9, 2011

Yesterday it was casual and warm, today it’s the turn of the smart serious Winter coat. An essential in every woman’s wardrobe but not necessarily a purchase to be made annually. If you invest in a classic coat then it will last and look good for a lot more than one season. These are my favorites from what’s available. I like a really good quality wool for warmth and looks, although the Vivienne Westwood one is a serious contender. The shape needs to suit and cover you so that all you need is a pair of boots, hat and gloves to step out in both warmth and style for any occasion.

I’m just back from Pure, the British Fashion fair which is held in Earls Court and Olympia. The Press pass gave me a place to hang my coat and leave my bags, (of which there were many by the end of the show) I was double jobbing, looking out for interesting snippets to blog and manning the Martine Wester Fashion jewellery stand. I haven’t been to Pure for some years. It is one of the traditional stomping ground for the Irish buyers and I must say that while there where some there, all the companies I spoke too noted that this season there were less than usual.

Susannagh Grogan was there for the first time with her beautifully fabulous scarves. The girls from Chica where there with their Ingenue dresses and their stand was heaving. I’m always on the watch out for great Irish designers and am crossing my fingers for Joanne Hynes who is showing at London Fashion Week which kicks off this Friday and Electronic Sheep hats and scarves who are showing in Somerset House at LFW. These of course are just a couple of the brilliant Irish fashion designers who are making waves. I am back in London for the Jaeger show and to give the Electronic Sheep girls some support in a couple of days if I can shake off the chest infection that has just started to take a grip.

The great Zandra Rhodes ( I blame her for my addiction to blue eyeshadow in the 70′s) and actress and Pure Accessories organiser, Vicky Ogden, made a grand entrance as they walked the aisles in a swaithe of colour. Zandra who is well into her **’s had a pair of four inch wedges on I noticed. Who says we have to hang up our heels I shook her hand and asked if I could take a picture of both women and like true professionals who are used to the flash of the camera’s they dutifully obliged.

Time for a smile

I’m sitting in front of a log fire and relaxing a little after a manic day at work with all the stresses which surrounded my day. I
will be in work tomorrow at 8am to work on pricing all the Jaeger samples that finally arrived at 3 O’clock today (it’s nail biting times). The first appointment is at 8am on Monday morning so by that stage my showroom has to look perfect. Flowers in a vase, liquorice all sorts in the bowl, a fridge full of bottled water, fresh coffee in the machine and all the samples looking pristine on the hangers.

So time to put a smile on my face , If you haven’t seen this video advert in full before take a look and enjoy….

Donate a Dress is a ‘no brainer’

Tags: , , , — Nicky Harris, January 15, 2011

The great success of the Buy My Dress Online.ie website has resulted in a shortage of dresses. The website is the main source of funding for the Down Syndrome Centre. I don’t know about you but I am in the middle of having a big wardrobe purge. I’m making space for all the fabulous Spring clothes I ordered for myself from Jaeger (one perk I get for being an Agent) I can’t remember what I ordered so I’m looking forward to the surprises in store. Anyway back to the matter in hand. I have at least one good dress that I’m willing and happy to give to this charity even if I decide to sell the others on Face Book or eBay. The charity makes it very easy to donate and all the information is on their website. Take a look at the video below and then grab something decent that you aren’t going to wear again and donate it. The dress will get a good home and you will feel good. A ‘No Brainer’ in any ones book.

Etsy Finds (while I wait for Dinner)

I have been working madly in the show room today organising the Jaeger London collection and the new younger Boutique Jaeger Collection as well as sending out news letters to customers on what is happening. We are in full swing preparing to sell for Spring Summer next year! You would think that I’d had enough of fashion when I come home in the evening but here I find myself checking out Etsy which I am drawn to occasionally. As I wait for the lamb and new potatoes to finish cooking ( the whole room is full of gorgeous garlicky/rosemary and lemon smells) I found these. If you click on the Etsy link on each one it will take you to the seller.

You have only to utter the word Vintage and you are instantly ‘In Fashion’

I’m so addicted to hats and seem to be collecting them at a fierce pace. I’m predicting that we will be a big fashion accessory this Winter again
