Colour and print are not just for Summer, they are for the whole year and bound to lift the mood whatever the prevailing weather. The Paris fashion house Kenzo has been doing what Kenzo is known for, print and colour in beautiful shapes, that are both ladylike and wearable. The Autumn Winter 2012/13 collection at Paris Fashion Show was a wonderful feast for the eyes. If you want to wear a little (affordable) Kenzo for this Summer they have a super collaboration with comfy on trend Vans in some fantastic net prints in several colours which go on sale for €90 in mid May, available on-line and from Harvey Nichols.

Natalie B Coleman, I LOVE ME, AW 12/13 from GrandBoy on Vimeo.
Spending the morning interviewing Natalie B Coleman was superlative design heaven. I saw some of her pieces in Brown Thomas as part of the Creatives showcase last year and was duly impressed. There are lots of very good Irish designers making waves and plying their trade and doing quite nicely too. Once in a blue moon an extraordinary one emerges and I think Natalie fits that description. Now entering her fourth season and selling in Paris, New York, Japan and China I sensed that talking about the business end of being a designer was necessary and important but when we started talking about actual design she lit up. Her fabulous prints are simply beautiful and the finish of her garments are superb, something that other newly emerging designers ignore at their peril. The new collection ‘I Love Me’ includes soft as butter leather bags, scarves and her fantastic exclusive prints which include drawings of unicorns and ostriches. A current ongoing singular project involves a stunning white wedding dress, Carrickmacross lace and hundreds of hours of painstaking work. 100 hours has already gone into the sleeves. I can’t wait to see that…
When I asked Natalie where she would like to be in two years hence she talked about where she would like her collection to be placed and all the best stores in the world are on her list. With lots of developments in the pipeline that she couldn’t talk about it seems that there are lots of possibilities in the offing. Natalie is an extremely busy person but she is also pragmatic, the ideas are flowing what she wants more than ever is (the mantra of all designers) more time to design. With a Press and sales team now in place she is already working on Spring Summer 13 I think that this young designer is well ahead of the pack.
