A Stylist borrows some Bits and Pieces

I met Stylist Ann- Marie Proudfoot a few weeks ago and she mentioned she was looking for some items of clothing. I’m in the middle of a big clear out from the showroom as we prepare for all the new collections so I invited Ann-Marie to come and ‘borrow’ whatever took her fancy. Armed with a bag full of stuff this is what just came in to my in box so I thought I would share these great images with you. The neckpiece is from the fabulous new German collection Solsani which will arrive into the shops in August for the first time and the skirt is a gorgeous lace Yummie Tummie skirt from last season.

The End of The Day

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at the Leopardstown Races before setting up for the Press day today in the Shelbourne Hotel for Yummie Tummie. It was a welcome break in the business of fashion and I couldn’t help noticing a real nip in the air so my cashmere coat and scarf, hat and gloves were welcome additions.

Picking a Winner

Today started at 5am so right now I’m running on empty! The venue was TV am and the plan was that Heather Thomson would do a live interview showing the new collection from Yummie Tummie and was to flag the customer event in Brown Thomas this afternoon. Through a tech glitch at the very last minute this didn’t go out live but will go out in the next few days. ( I was tweeting all day to let customers know!) One of the models got lost and had to be rescued from Fashion City in the dark. The shoes were all wrong but with a bit of juggling it was quickly sorted and there was so much dust that I started an allergy attack which I’ve been battling all day. All in a days work you could say and so when I finally arrived at the Shelbourne just as Heather Thomson had finished her first press presentation I was greeted by a face I hadn’t seen since my school days and one that I instantly recognised. It was Bairbre Power, Fashion Editor of the Independent Newspaper. I had spoken to her on the phone in the past few months when she had reminded me of school days and we kept missing each other at various fashion events but we were like long lost pals today.

It was brilliant to see other fellow bloggers and friends today, the beautiful Angela Scanlon, who featured in a great piece in the Holy Grail, the Sunday Times Style Magazine last week. What She Wears.ie, the brilliant Irish Online Fashion Magazine. The enigmatic Maria Fusco who now has her own blog, is active on Facebook and who always inspires me and the brilliantly tallented and always calm stylist Cathy O’Connor. The press over the next few days will be interesting to follow but it looks like we had a really great reaction from everyone who came.

Cathy and Aoife from PR Boutique have been working with me on the Press day for Yummie Tummie which starts at 5 am tomorrow. Heather Thomson, stylist to the stars and Yummie Tummie founder (with spades of American business energy) is in town to dazzle us with all the gossip from LA . Watch TV am tomorrow for all the latest updates on how the amazing Yummie Tummie works into your everyday wardrobe. For me it’s a coredrobe ‘go to’ item every day. Whether its a cami, top, pants or sexy teddie, I’ve now got used to the security and the smoothing down of all those lumps and bumps. I’m not the only one ,as lots of my fashion friends and serious stylists tell me they also wear them, as do lots of the buyers I meet on my travels. Yummie Tummie is no secret it’s a garment that’s good looking enough to shout out about.

If you want to meet Heather and her team head to Brown Thomas in Dublin tomorrow between 3-5pm. Today found me in town which is unusual for a Saturday unless it’s to the market in Temple Bar. Next Tuesday is Press day for Yummie Tummie with a visit from Heather Thomson, stylist and founder of Yummie Tummie and I needed to pop into Brown Thomas to double check some last minute details. On a whim I decided to get my hair cut. It’s been a total disaster since my impetuous nature resulted in a local hairdresser taking it from long to an uneven short in the space of ten minutes a few weeks ago. Ever since I have been taking the kitchen scissors to it and attempting to ‘fix’ the escalating problem. I headed to salon Oslo in the Georges Arcade and I must say I’m very happy with the result. I went into Om Diva to say hi to the always smiling owner Ruth at around 6pm just in time to bump into the fabulous Michael Leong, Milliner extraordinaire and uber talented hair stylist. Last week Michael had been working on Louise Kennedy’s latest collection and the images on his Facebook page look stunning. He really liked my hair and that’s high praise indeed. Michael was gathering interesting things (I have to say things) for a secret assignment which will become crystal clear in the next two weeks but one which I am sworn to secrecy about for now. I’m going to stop here for risk of letting something slip.

Now I keep bumping into lots of people who tell me they read my blog and I know who you are. I know for example that there is a person in Beijing well known to me who pops by and a fellow Fashion agent in the UK who is a regular reader. Yummie Tummie Gives something Back

Last Saturday it was a Super Saturday event in South Hampton NY. In support of Ovarian Cancer at the Novas Ark Project The stars came out in force and included, Betsey Johnson, Christie Brinkley, the Kardashian sisters, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe and Rachel Zoe amongst others. Lots of money was raised for the charity and the event was sponsored by Heather Thomson of Yummie Tummie and celebrity stylist fame. By the looks of the pictures everyone had a great time.

Blackrock in County Dublin is a mecca for beautiful boutiques and before I head to London for Jaeger Press day tomorrow (I’m on the dreaded red eye in the morning) I dropped by to deliver some Yummie Tummies to Deryn Mackey in the gorgeous Khan Boutique which by the way has some seriously fabulous clothing. On the way I called into Jane of ‘Fran and Jane’ fame and because I had my camera with me and just had to take snap of a fabulous coat that I spotted. It’s shown here in red but comes in Winter White, Charcoal, Black, Purple and Navy (something for everyone!) and is priced at 299 euro.

Giving something back

I took the morning off to pay a visit to the National rehabilitation Hospital in Dunlaoire Co Dublin. A large ugly building where all brain injured children from around Ireland go for intensive rehabilitation following brain injury, stroke and serious brain illness. I know this hospital really well since it’s where my daughter spent eight months following a serious car accident in which my mother was killed. I am now involved in the funding of a Music Therapy service which is up and running but which is not funded by the hospital and depends on the generosity of the wider community to keep it going. The team of professionals are nothing short of wonderful and it does my soul good to help them in any way I can. Last year I trekked through Brazil and raised a significant sum of money. Since I’m a five star hotel sort of woman that was certainly a challenge! Following my meeting I headed back to the world of Fashion and got stuck right back into work. Taking orders, sorting problems, making appointments for the forthcoming season.

It’s all go at the moment and work life is very varied. Since one of the companies I work with (Yummie Tummie) are on the west coast of the USA it’s only when I get home in the evening that they start and so some evenings I’m working up to midnight.

During the afternoon I took a call from the RTE Radio 1 Tubridy show asking me if I would like to go to a special screening of the new COCO Chanel film! and then do a review on 31st July. Of course I said yes as I’ve been a Chanel devotee for some time and am really excited about it. Watch this space!

Shapewear for Men

It’s been a really busy day in the showroom. Ript Fusion arrived in, the samples look great. Ript is the latest shapewear for men in the form of a cool T-shirt which comes in black and white and is offered in round and V neck. It follows the Yummie Tummie shapewear tops for women which are currently selling like hot cakes around the world. It will be interesting to see if Irish men love their love handles or not???

All the Invitations have now been sent and the showroom is turning from an untidy office into a showcase for all the ranges due in shortly. The trend for short dresses and shorts worn with opaques is great for all of us who sell hosiery and Falke is right up there. The fact that opaques are being worn in the height of the summer bodes well for the coming autumn season.

It’s interesting to note that all the top designers in the UK have signaled that their prices are dropping by 25-30% for the coming season led by designer Marc Jacobs. Penneys reported a rise in sales of 20% so all of us who sell quality ranges will have to work harder to persuade our customers that cheap clothes are a foolish buy. A hard task given the uncertainty in the market.
